Ways to improve Hinjewadi, Pune Traffic Situation

Every day, in the morning and the evening, I ( don't want to, but I do ) get a lot of time on the bus, during which I usually turn on my FM receiver, plug in the headphones and sit back and listen to the music ( Unfortunately FM radio is annoying too, instead of broadcasting advertisements in between songs, they broadcast songs in between advertisements ) ..

Recently because of the Ganesh Festival, road works, rain and highly 'educated' people on the road, the conditions have worsened. The other day, it took 2 hours to reach from Hinjewadi to Kothrud, which is otherwise a 20 min drive.

So that day I did not listen to the FM / music, but started thinking of ways to get past these issues, since apparently Pune Municipal Corporation / Hinjewadi Grampanchyat doesn't seem to take this seriously.

I think there are some ways to control the traffic during rush hours .. Listed here, not necessarily in the order of importance.

1.  Encourage vehicle pooling :
(a) Do not allow non-pooled cars  OR
(b) Charge fines for non-pooled cars OR
(c) Allocate 2 lanes for pooled vehicles and only 1 for non-pooled.

2.  Hinjewadi IT Park Association / companies should promote usage of public transport
(a)  All companies should charge for car parking - same amount that they charge for bus transport
(b)  Increase bus frequency / run shuttle services more frequently

3.  Start frequent and cheap public transport ( PMPML )

4.  Fix the roads !

5.  Unidirectional traffic during rush hours

6.  Give way !
I've noticed that there are people/trucks crossing the traffic and traffic getting blocked very frequently. And we are talking about highly educated IT staff here !  If you wait few seconds and let the truck/tempo cross the road, you'll have to wait only few seconds !  but if you do not wait and allow the truck to cross, he'll try to sneak trying to cut the flow and everyone will have to wait for minutes for stuck traffic to start flowing again.
So give them way !!

7.  Do not use mobile phones while driving
Firstly, it is illegal , not allowed ! Many times drivers are talking on phone while driving. They don't realize themselves, but this affects the driving speed and deviates attention causing accidents, slowed down traffic and delays.

If you read the list above, there are some points for which our government is to be held responsible, and there are some for which we are responsible ourselves. While we are working with HIA ( Hinjewadi Industries Association ) and the traffic control system and government, as an individual, everyone bares responsibility towards this issue and expectation is to follow simple but essential traffic rules, discipline and assist the resolution of these traffic issues, since at the end of the day, it's US - you and me who are going to be benefited out of it.
